Sam, several months ago I bought a D12 from an EBAY deal, 8+4 knees, $900 shipped. This was a very very heavy guitar but it had a very nice changer system and played very well. Did I mention that it was heavy ? My little opinion is that 4 knees are just about the standard these days.
You can expect to pay in the $55 to $65 shipping range UPS.
I would agree that the EBAY price right now @ $795 is about the max price I would pay with only two knee levers. IF you could locate knee kits for this guitar they would probably cost in the $150 range for both without installation.

| Last year I bought an MSA Classic D-10 on Ebay for $950.00. It was a beautiful rosewood mica. It has 8 pedals and 2 knees and I had 3 more knees added, but it never worked out from a mechanical standpoint. The 2 original knees were on the right end and I added the 3 new ones on the left end. The problem was in the alignment of the new knees. They were too far centered, such that with your left knee in between the levers, your left foot would be out of position for the a,b,c, pedals. The foot lined up more with the 4,5,6 pedals instead. I had a well-known steel technician do the work, so it was not done poorly. The guitar just wasn't made to accomodate the extra levers. MSA made a great guitar, but I'd advise you to look closely if you plan to add levers. |

I saw the MSA D10 on e-bay...price is right.
I overlooked the fact that it only had 2 knees....if we're talking about the Classic SS. I've had several MSAs over the years & I had one of these models. The nicest MSA I ever had and they are able to be set almost any way you'd like....they were all pre-drilled. I can't imagine not making it fit
a player! One of the last ones they built I believe, laquer finish, maple, wood necks, pretty nice ax! They also had the larger body model...not the SS, but I can't remember what that model was called? [This message was edited by Doug Seymour on 25 March 2002 at 02:22 PM.] |

I have a Classic SS that had 4 knees on it when I bought it, and I added 4 more. It is very comfortable to play. I had to do a lot of forethought before adding the levers. I am a mechanical engineer, and I went so far as to make a CAD drawing of the underside of the guitar to make sure everything would fit where I wanted it. It plays and sounds very good.

It sold for $956.
That's fair, IMO.
If it was mine I would have to add two KLs. That woud add a few hundred to the original price. Still a fair price.

I have a MSA Classic SS D10. Doug is right , a real classy guitar. He knows what he is talking about.
Mine has the George L E66 on the E9 neck and the mellow Supersustain II on the C6 neck.
It is the lightweight MSA made by Bud Carter just before he went on his own. Very stable, with triple raise and triple lower.
Great sound and string spacing is just perfect. This guitar plays in tune! These are very rare guitars.
If you see one on Ebay, better grab it! It will be worth $1500. with 2 more knee levers....al  |

Joey- If that MSA Classic D10 SS wood lacquer sold for $956. That would be the first time I ever saw a nice one like that go that cheap. Heck, they were getting $800. for Mavericks 3/1.
Whoever got that MSA SS got a bargain, good for him.......al. |

Thanks guys for the feedback. Sounds like someone got a good deal.
I decided to keep plucking my Carter Starter for now and will wait until this Fall when I can check out what the world has to offer in St. Louis for my next move.
Is it August yet?

Yes, the guitar was probably worth the $956 if it was in good shape, but if you're not "mechanically oriented", I would hold out for a guitar with at least 4 knee levers. That way, you could play many years without have to go to the expense and trouble of adding new levers.
Also, if you're not comfortable with the knee lever positions, and have some mechanical aptitude, you can put them anywhere you want. I designed and built 3 simple vertical knee levers on mine, and one of them actually pivots on an adjacent floor-pedal crossrod. |

It's Black Mica. You can still see the picture at the link in the first post.
It looks like new.
The $800 Mavericks is a laughable abnomality, except for the poor buyer.
They've been selling for around $400 lately.
(I'll reserve my comments on that price.)
Any auction has bargains and the opposite.
I wouldn't be surprised if a clean MSA like this one is worth $2K in a few years.
