Wow! Masterful. Yeah, Buddy had a real good version on the Midnight Jamboree album. I don't know what tuning they used, but it seems that with the 1st string tuned to a D these days it might require a different approach. Thanks for the upload, Joe.

BTW, I was on a package show once with Charlie, and he had a local band backing him up. They did a push every time the song went from a 1 to a 4 or a 5 to a 1. It got really obnoxious after a couple songs, and we were LOAO backstage.

Hi Mike,

I did the last Discography in 1997 (the one with a red cover), when I had six months between day jobs. I doubt if I'll ever tackle another one. Anyone is free to carry that torch however... Part of the issue is that with CDRs, there's a bit of a question as to what constitutes an album. And now in the digital age, musicians face a real quandary as to where/how to focus their recorded music. It's very hard to monetize an album anymore. Of course, steel albums never sold anyway, so it shouldn't stop us! With downloads and streaming, the single song is the main choice of the consumer. It's like it's going full circle back to the days of the 78s, when it was one song at a time.

But, I'm getting off topic. Bobby Garrett, what a monster player!

Wow! That recording/arrangement is amazing. Bobby Garrett seems to me to be one of those players who doesn't get nearly the credit he deserves as an innovator and musician of discriminating taste and technical facility. During the formative years of the modern pedal steel I think he was right in there with Buddy, Jimmy, and Mooney as one of the true pioneers. I was not aware of the Charlie Walker live recording but his performance on the Hank Thompson's Live At The Golden Nugget makes it one of my all time favorite steel guitar records. Thanks Joe for sharing your knowledge and record collection with us, and turning us on to all of this great music!
