Does anyone know what tunning David Lindley uses on Running on empty ?

How about a transcription ?

Randy, David Lindley generally uses the 6-string tuning 1-5-1-3-5-1 from lowest to highest notes. "Running On Empty" is in A and Lindley is using open tuning on that song, so the tuning would be A-E-A-C#-E-A from low to high. Try these gauges: 44W, 36W, 26W, 17P, 14P, 11P. Good luck.

I've also known him to tune to a regular E chord form - like on a standard guitar - except that he will have several guitars in different keys.Kind of like a blues harmonica player. -MJ-
