I am very curious as to other users settings of the Walker Stereo Steel Amp.
Here is a chart of my settings, the numbers are in terms of a clock face.
Let me know if you will, what yours are, thanks.
Gain * 9 to 12
Presence * 10 to 1
Treble * 9 to 11
Mid * 9 to 12
Freq * 11 to 1
Bass * 12 to 2
Warmth * 11 to 1
Parametric ** 12:00 Is Off
Aux *
Left & Right Volume * * 10 to 1
Master Vol. * 10 to 2
Effex *

Fred, mine are pretty close to yours.
Gain-10 pres-10 treb-10 mid-12 freq-12 bass-3
warmth-10 para-12 & 12 Master-10 Both volume
knobs are on 12 with the knobs pulled out.
Efex-12 to 1 I use a Boss SE-50 patched into the
effects loop.

Fred,
Every steeler's friend, the late Duane Marrs, used a Walker amp. I was playing my ShoBud LDG through his one day and for some reason decided to take a picture of it.
It sounded really good. I don't use a Walker amp, but if I did I would set it like Duane's.

OK Fred stop screwing around.
Run the mid and freq on full, set the bass-warmth-treb and pres to taste. I also run the 2 EQ knobs at about 1:00.
Play, listen to how clean this is and how clean it will be at the back of the room. Now go back to your settings. Let me know what the guy in the back row says.

I had to let mine go a while back Fred, but these are pretty close to what I used most of the time with a pre RP Mullen D10. Close to straight up on most of the eq controls. I had a TubeWorks RT921 reverb unit in there with eq controls and the Boss fx with eq controls, so some of the shaping was done with those. Speakers were open back TubeWorks 12 and 15 BW loaded cabs.
Overall, your settings are pretty similar to what I used. I think it depends somewhat on your guitar's timbre too.
Great amp BTW, I only gave mine up because I need a 2 channel amp/preamp for a variety of guitar, slide and steel sounds. |

Larry, as you and others may know, I've been playing through a Walker SS pre amp for about 2 years and love it. I just wanted to get some ideas about other guys settings so to tinker around with.

| I run my Gain and Master at 9:00 and all the tone, EQ, and effects knobs straight up at 12:00. I do hook it up differently than most though. I run the Stereo Steel in the effects loop of a Boss GX-700, and my Goodrich L-120 in the effects loop of the Stereo Steel. |

I have a hard time understanding "exact amp setting" threads- isn't it kind of academic if we're all using different cabinets and guitars?
For what it's worth, with my SD-10 Zum my setup resembles Duane's in Tony's post, except with Mid cuts instead of boosts. It was somewhat different with my Mullen, and different again with my LeGrande.
The best thing about these amps for me, once you dial in the sound you like, just a small tweeze will get you back there at different venues. GREAT AMP! |

| I set Mine Similar to Jim Smith, all Tone and EQ Controls at 12 O clock and The Input gain to 9.The Left and Right Volume and Master as Needed. Gerry Walker was Dead on in his Design of The Walker Stereo Steel Amp and Preamp. |

Good morning boys. I love the tone of my settings (listed above) I just wanted some other one's to tinker around with. I've wrote all of your responses down and I'm headed for the demo room right now.

Just now saw your post. I have had my Walker Stereo Steel for about 2 years and love it. Below are my settings as it sets in my music room. I suppose they would vary a little depending on what guitar you are using. These settings are for my P/P. I haven't really worked with it with my Zum. Sure enjoy your playing by the way no matter what you are using.
Gain * 8
Presence * 12
Treble * 10
Mid * 7
Freq * 11
Bass * 11
Warmth * 2
Parametric ** Level - 7 @1K
Aux *
Left & Right Volume * * 12
Master Vol. * 10

If I'm in a more modern setting where the guitar player is pretty loud the last thing I want to do is just blend in so here are the settings for me.
Presence 1 o'clock
Treble 2 o'clock
mid pegged to the right
Freq pegged to the right
Bass 2-3 o'clock
Warmth 12 o'clock
para metric 10 o'clock
para metric second knob 12:30
With this setting I wouldn't recommend changing the warmth setting anyplace but 12 o'clock. Gerry Walker said it could blow a speaker.
I highly suggest you try it in a band setting. You'll really cut cleanly through everything. Oh btw I also use a black box which I think is critical to warming up the highs.

Here are mine:
Gain 12:00
Treble 11:00
Mid 11:00
Freq 1:00
Bass 1:00
Warmth 9:00
Para 12:00 and 1K
Left & Right 1:00 "Out"
Master 11:00
EFex 1:00
The final key to me was the delay setting in my TCE M-One XL. I reset all of the factory pre-sets from one-tap to two-tap delay signal...then added a 20% "offset" to the signal to the right side. (Thanks, Steve Palousek for that idea). It is amazing how much depth this creates. Maybe your effects unit can do this too.
With the TCE unit, I can adjust the overall Reverb and Delay intensity on-the-fly, using control knobs.
I now have two identical set-ups. This rig is the best overall of any rig I've ever used.
