It looks like a "push-pull mania" is sweeping the country.
I couldn't believe what Bobbe Seymour's sign said. I had to take a picture
Even rural areas are getting the push pull fever.
Who would expect to see this written here?

You can play your steel at the opera, or you can play it in a bar, you can play gospel music or you can back up a nashville star, but you will never find one that sounds better, tho you look near and far, than the one sound so great, the Emmons push/pull steel guitar

Here are mine. s/n 175L black Legrande and my newest 2237D rosewood p/p. Incidently, when I got the p/p back in May, I was playing it and my 92 year old Grandma walked up to me and said " boy that new guitar of yours sure sounds different than the black one, it sounds really good"
Even 92 year old ears can hear that "SOUND" |

This one was setup and modded by Albert Johnson. Additional hours by my friend Rick Byrd to really tweak it and teach me about the PP workings and tuning. THANKS to both of you! Also, thanks to Joe Kaloc for selling me this fine axe! SN 1065D
More pics to come. Problem with uploading some pics.

Tim, I knew Joe had a p/p but I didn't know it was this one. Ted Crabtree told me about it, but said he probably wouldn't get rid of it. Course, thats been a while. _________________ www.joshturner.com

I bought this '66 from a lady in Southern CA who's husbund had recently passed away. This was in the early 1980's, Wished I had got some background info on him.
Non-standard 3-holes in endplate:

Skip, That lavender P/P probably lives in West Hollywood, or my neighborhood. And it's probably been played at the Rawhide and a few other places we've both worked. C'mon, fess. It's really yours, isn't it? Why not re-mica it so it can come out of the closet?
Here are my two D10's, although I think all these pictures of black P/P's are redundant. They all look alike. And they all sound great. The one with 6 levers is the Tommy White/Jim Cohen/Gary Walker '76. Unfortunately it's forgotten everything they ever played on it. The other is the '72 fatback I got recently. After an extensive re-build it could still use a correct pedal board decal.

You know...I have had my 1974 P/P for over a year now, I always wonder, where has it been in the past? How many different owners has it had..I know the last owner is a pro player, and a session musician in the Houston area, and it has been all over the place with him..but I sometimes wonder how many before him, and where has it been with them?..anyhow just a thought...I LOVE this thread!!

Hi Garry Vanderlinde,
that is a very nice and interesting '66 you've got. What is the third row of tuning holes in the end plate for? I'm also curious if you think it came from Emmons with nine pedals? I know on my '66 the pedal stop bar will only accomidate eight pedals. Yours must have been a special model. Do you know it's history?
Thanks,
Cliff |

Hi Cliff, The 9 floor pedals are original. It was more common on older steels.
It currently has 5 knee levers. It’s really hard to tell how many are original. I suspect not many. It had 4 on it when I got it. I put the 5th vertical on last year.
On my guitar the top row(3rd row) of adjusting rows in the endplate don’t attach to anything. The raise and lower fingers are the same as the two rows models. I only have heard of two other Emmons with 3 rows of holes which are owned by Dave Robbins and Marty Muse; they have split fingers and are adjustable I am told.
Herb Steiner said that Buddy explained to him that the three hole configuration was an ill-advised attempt at a split tuning mechanism.
I showed my guitar to Buddy and he said it might have belonged to him at one time. He sat down to play it and he knew exactly what to do with that 9th pedal. I still haven't quite figured it out... |
