Hello. I know this is a bit early, but...
I am planning a trip (my first) to Nashville late autumn this year. When would be the best time to go, seen from a steel fanatics point of view. (My wife will stay at home, I will go on my own).
Thanks.........

I'd have to say, seen from a steel fanatic's point of view, that the best time to go to Nashville would be in the late 1960's to early 1970's.

I know, but I would be like 2 years old in those golden ages. I guess I could go to the museums....

From a steel fanatics point of view:

Forget late fall, come early, say Labor Day Weekend

Forget Nashville and head to St. Louis and take in Scotty's Convention.

You won't go home disappointed.

Tore,

How many days can you spend in the United States?

You could fly from Oslo to St. Louis, Missouri for the International Steel Guitar Convention. The Convention is August 31 - September 1,2,3, 2000. Then you could fly or drive to Nashville. It is 300 miles (480 km) between St. Louis and Nashville and would take 5 hours to drive. The roads are all Interstate Highways and very easy to travel.

There will be hundreds of people going back to Nashville after the Convention. You could catch a ride with someone going back to Nashville. Then spend 4 or 5 days in Nashville and fly back to Oslo from Nashville.

Is Dag Wolf going to Nashville before or after the Convention? If he is, you could go with him possibly.

I'm going to Nashville in two weeks. I'd like to ask WHERE to go (other than Opry, of course). For example, what is the best steel shop?

Mr. Breeze I think that the best "Steel Store" around Nashville is Steel Guitar Nashville, in Goodlettsville, owned and operated by two very nice people, Bobbe and Jeannie Seymour. You might even talk Bobbe into playing a few licks for you? I have done business with him and have been very satisfied. Also, I would take in The Nashville Palace, where you will find Mike Sweeney playing, who is an excellent Steel Player. And I would also go to the Station Inn and catch Johnny Cox, one of the very best Steel Players, and "Hoot" Hester and all the guys there on Monday nights. They have the very best show in town, in my opinion. And if you can, catch the Midnight Jamboree at the Ernest Tubb Theater. Stu Basore was playing when I was there about a month ago, and he is a fine Steel Player. You might find other places but, I think the ones I have mentioned are very good. Hope you have as pleasant and enjoyable time in Nashville, TN.as I did.
