I had the exact same problem. I went back to the original gauge strings my guitar came with from the factory. No more problem !!

I wear a Justin Roper shoe as well. Mine do not slip on they lace up. I have no problems feeling the pedals as the soles are kinda thin.

I would suggest setting up on the dance floor and running a long cable to your amp. Or maybe trying a wireless unit. Either way you get a general idea of what it is like out front.
