Howdy

Recently I changed out the pickup and electronics and nut on my Gretsch Electromatic Lap Steel.

I bought some GHS Custom Shop 15-36 strings.

I'm not real happy with the sound.

I am definately playing with a much lighter touch on the Lap Steel than the Dobro.

I had a Lap Steel with a longer scale neck that I got rid of and I guess I just need to get used to the feel of th ...

I have this tuned the same as my Dobro

I have played "regular" guitar for 40 years
but I don't want to confuse my self right at
this point by having my Dobro and Laps Steel
with differ ...

I can't make sense of the chart.

I have a Lap Steel with a 22 1/2 neck.

It is tuned to an open GBDGBD

Right now the low G is a 59 Gauge string
and the high D is an 18 Gauge string.

I can' ...

Sorta figured that was the case.

However....

How much larger?

For example my largest string now is a 59
and my smallest is an 18.

Is going up just one more step say to a 20 a ...

The shorter scale give a bit of slackness in the str ...

I have bought a number of Troy Lessons and I just bought some more.

I'm going to go with them for the near future.

I have heard some good things about all of them

Particularly the Phillips and the Cashdollar dvd's.

What would be considered the best bet on
Instructional DVD for Dobro?

I have some basic knowledge and I have bought
some lessons from Troy and Jimmmy Hefferman
but what I reall ...

It may be appearance....

However with owning a Dobro and another Lap Steel
that have more or less straight string spacing,
going to a Lap steel with that much of a taper
was more than a bit awkw ...

I bought a Gretsch 5700 Lap Steel.

The Bridge has what I would consider
"normal" string spacing of apro ...

OK I Know I know I know....

Is there a decent Dobro Capo for my Gold Tone Paul Beard Dobro that doesn't cost $85.00?

And they have a different style of playing.

And I do intend to learn both of them.

My original question was...

See I want to learn both instruments.

My Trio plays both acoustic music
and some stuff like Dwight Yoakum
and Marty Stewart.

So I like the Dobro for some stuff
and I like the Steel for other ...

I have been told that tuning a Dobro to C6 doesnt drive the cone enough. I do know that many do tune theirs to A6th.

Ok here is a totally foolish question.

(like that has ever stopped me before)

A while back I started learning C6 Lap Steel

Then I got a Dobro and started to learn that.(standard G Tuning)

I remembered that I needed some more
basic Dunlop .020 metal finger picks.

Nothing unusual or fancy.

I did not want to go with the Ebay guitar.

I am not wild about buying an instrument
with a blemish/crack on the neck.

I want to put the first divot/crack ...

As you mentioned there are not a
lot of Square Neck ones out there.

If you look at my original message I stated
that I meant that "Safe" was an establishment that
set up and checked out the mdse before it was shipped.
