It sounds like you are looking for the chords to The Major Scale.
I, iim, iiim, IV, V, Vim, Viidim I

For now just grab strings 4,5,6, and play...
In the Key of G:
3, 3C, 5C, 8, 10, 10C, 13F, 15 ...

He broke a string on a Melobar looking axe that he was playing a rippin solo on, and it didn't seem to phase him one bit.

I might be wrong but I don't recall anywhere in Pedal Steel history where this famous (to me) solo was played, before Buddy Cage played it, but the Steel playing throughout this entire song is stellar ...

I like that Sonny Curtis solo. It sounds like he does a single string slide-up the Major Scale at the one part. Very cool.

You already have alot of 6th tuning options on an standard S10.
You can hold the AB pedals down and you are in A6th, and C6th is in the 3rd fret.
If you lower your E's to Eb, you have C6th on fret 1 ...
