Have you worked through any of the C6th courses for the Jazz Standards you are interested in?
Jim Loessberg is one guy who is really great at the Jazz stuff, Youtubes, Instruction, etc.

I always gig with a Black Box any time I am using Solid State Amps (the original tube is still in there).

My analogy has always been, S12U is like a nice Corvette, and D10 is like a nice Ford F250 Smile
If you need to pull stumps, grab a D10.
If you want to blaze around town, grab an S12U.

I use a product called "HumX" for ground-loop based noise.
