Not really enough info to answer your "Black-out" problem, but I would say you need to download the latest video driver for your PC. Some drivers will black the screen during the driver install/detect ...

Try going to Gateway's support sight and downloading the display drivers for your 9100. My guess is when it came off lease the hard drive was blanked and the tech neglected to install the drivers.
