I would go with the Fender you already have. Tune it to C6 and concentrate only on the front neck.

Would anyone care to guess what 'effects' JB might have used with this recording? Judging from the sound, I don't think it could be straight into an amp without 'effects'?

When I first started playing I had the same problem and I started with thicker gauge National picks. If you change to a lighter gauge Propik you will definitely notice a difference. I promise.
