No real constraints as long as the cavity does not weaken the area in front of any string attachments (for some types of bridge)

Run a par of jumper leads out from hot and ground and then you can easily play around with pot and cap values and extra resistors till you get what sounds good to you

As you have it the tone controls from the neck and bridge pickups will affect the middle when it is combined with them but not when it is by it ...

Bar type depends on your style of playing, if you use open notes or lift the bar a lot you are better off with a rail type bar. I use the GS too

If you have a good professional crimp tool the results are great, the results with a $10 combination cutter/stripper/ crimper are a lot less reliable due to inadequate compression.

If you have a soldering iron then solder and heatshink any joints. Way better than non professional crimp joints.

I'd do it like Bill and saw through the solder either with a razor saw or a cutting wheel on a dremel. Much easier and safer than trying to remelt and remove old solder

I have the same pickup on my National NewYorker. I had to pull the cover to get it rewound. It's mostly empty space with 2 half width coils for strings 1-3 and 4-6 set up to work as a humbucker.

Trouble is if you start modifying that bridge you lose the plating and it may just be zinc based metal under there, Plus you would need to re crown it not just leave it flat from front to back.
