E9 is best for this kind of thing as you have all the notes of the scale available at the same fret and most of the relevant chords too. Mike Perlowin (RIP) called it the "Mozart neck".

I went to a uni because I liked to play both necks but didn't like to haul, let alone tune, let alone restring a D10.

If C6 isn't your thing I don't see the point. Extended E9 makes more sense.

I tune my steel in natural intervals, and as well as occasional overdrive I also use an Electro Harmonix Synth 9.

What Mike and Andrew say. Even though you don't have an actual D string, you still have the same D to C# change.

And the Day setup is better as the A pedal is useful in B6.

Slants aside, I always assumed that a cavity in the base of the bar was a way of moving the centre of gravity nearer the nose.
