I had a similar problem. The amp was cutting in and out intermittently. I could make it happen by wiggling the power switch ... but that wasn't the culprit.

As far as I know Legrande III's were built with either the Emmons single coil .. or Emmons 108 humbuckers. The pickup plate is drilled differently for each.

I don't have a flag on that vertical. It's hard to visualize what's blocking your getting a wrench in there.
You could loosen it either by the locking nut ... or force the screw out with a h ...

I think you can lower it by adjusting the screw that the knee lever stops against. Then you have to readjust the nylon nuts on the changer.

Just looked at mine. That is the rod for the compensator. Mine has a much shorter bend length and the standard clip.
Maybe yours had a collar holding it, rather than the clip ... I don't ...

I bought a Black D10 Legrande III (E9 compensator) S/N 1785L from Al Brisco in Ontario, Canada the fall of 1998.
I think he took delivery of it in late August that year.
Still sounds great!

I can only give you a clue. This was shown to me in a lesson years ago when the Expedition E9 Tape came out.
The tune is 'This Cold War With You' in G and the chord sequence here is C to E7 ...
