I haven't use a bunch of mics, but am finding the Sennheiser MD 421ii the most transparent NON Tone Shaping mic I've used... I know Several full blown recording studio's plus top flight Steel Session ...

Bud, I'm not sure you'd go wrong with either... I've used both, gave away a 2i2 Scarlett and use PreSonus now for several years... Both good quality Interfaces.
