Someone once said that Jerry Byrd "tweaked" his old Bakelite Rick pickup. Any truth to this? How would one go about doing this?
Your thoughts will be appreciated.

Ray,
Good to see you made it home, bet is was hard to leave all that good music across the pond, saw those nice pictures of you and your Rickenbacker. Would have been a treat to hear you playing.

I will ask my friend Bill Blevins about the pickup. He is a long time friend of Jerry's and has one or two of his Bakelites. Will call him later today.

Ain't a whole lot to tweak there ...

Only things I can think of:

Prewar magnets really vary alot in strength ...

I've charged up a bunch and there is a good +/- 80 gauss difference once fully magnetized... between the strongest and weakest I've seen.

Post wars are much more consistant ... and stronger per unit area.

He could have found stronger mags and swapped out the originals ... ???

His Rickys shouldn't have needed a remag at that time ... but maybe just to "top them off" ... ???

Maybe he had the bobbin rewound ... for more midrange ... ???

If anyone wants to send me JB's original Bakelites ... I'd be happy to "look into" it ...
