Hello
I just found an interesting and good 45 record by "Roger Hill and the Blue Country Playboys" called "Gene`s theme". The label is Linda, record is from 1973,no indication from where this band/or label comes from. Why do I think of Gene O`Neal?? The playing reminds me some of what Gene later played with Charley Pride.Anyone out there know this band from the early 70`s,or was there someone else around at that time with the name Gene??? Why do I think the steeler`s name is Gene? Just a guess from the title since this a steel instrumental,I guess it is written by the steeler, but no writer is listed as it used to be.
Will be nice to find out more about this 45.
Sorry,Can`t add soundclip.
Regards,Egil.

Egil,
That really hits close to home. Roger Hill had a good local band that played throughout the surrounding area of Buffalo, NY. Very often n Holland, NY at a place called Mama's.
Gene Strong was the steel player and a fine one at that. I took my first lessons from him, as he taught regularly. Sat in for him a few times also.
I'm almost sure that this is a single they did back then.
I believe Gene stopped playing a few years ago, and I haven't talked with him in a while.
Maybe some of the Buffalo guys can chime in here also. Kevin? Ed Meadway? Lee Bath?

Thats real interesting that one of Roger Hill's records would wind up in Norway and show up here on the forum. Thats gotta be Gene Strong from here in Buffalo. Roger Hill was a country staple here in western N.Y. Gene no longer plays. What a small world.
