I really want to hear Dickey Overbey - is he still playing with Jake Hooker and the Outsiders? The Southland Records website makes it look that way, but I want to be sure before I drive to see them. Thanks!

| To the best of my knowledge, Dicky is still with Jake Hooker. I know he was just a few weeks ago, and I haven't heard anything to the contrary. It will be well worth the trip to go hear them play some genuine Texas dance music. |

Dicky is still with Jake. I had the privilege to fill in for him last weekend. Jake, Dicky and the band will be at Pearls Dancehall in the Ft. Worth Stockyards next Saturday, 01/29. Don't miss it. Joan and I plan to attend. This is country as good as it gets.

Jake Hooker and the Outsiders with Dicky Overbey - what a great band! Just stand-up bass, fiddle, and steel (all analog instruments - no frets!) with drums, and all played by outstanding musicans. And that Jake can sure sing. But Dicky's playing made me alternate between wanting to practice till my fingers turned blue, and quitting in hopelessness forever. His authority, tone, creativity, and mastery of the instrument were a delight to witness. Also, I have never noticed anyone switching between the two necks on a single song, but maybe that's because I'm new.

Steve,
Buddy Emmons and Buddy Charleton used to switch between necks during the same song. If my copies of the Ernest Tubb television shows(every episode)hadn't been stolen I could send you some examples.
If I am not mistaken, on the Ernest Tubb recording of "Half a Mind" Buddy Emmons played the first verse fills on C6th and the solo on E9th. He could likely tell you for sure whether this is the case.
