I'm being transferred to Randolph AFB, TX which is in San Antonio. I was wondering if anyone knows of any good steel players in the area I could network with.

Thanks,

Don

There are LOTS of fine players in SA - Denny Mathis and Kenny Grohman are two outstanding players, but there are more. I believe Tommy Detamore lives there, too, but I'm sure you'll get a better-informed response from a 'local guy'!

I played a two-week show there in '02 and got to meet - and hear - Denny and Kenny. Two very different, but very talented musicians.

PS: Kenny has the World's ugliest P/P!

Don..
My buddy Roger Edgington works with the Billy Matas band and is a monster player. Also, Butch Cornwell is in the San Antonio area, but I don't know if he is currently working. There is a plethora of great players in South Texas. And Austin is not far with another great bunch of guys!

Don,

I live about 5 miles from Randolph AFB. I pass by there quite a few times a week to go to play with my airplane in a private airport close by.

As you can see there's lots of good players in this area. There's always room for one more.

Looking forward to meeting you.

When you're talking great steel men and San Antonio area, you just cannot leave out the Dickymeister...Mr Overbey, don'tcha know. Also , Jerry Blanton is on Bobby Flores' "Just For The Record", so I have to assume that he is in that area. Looks to me like you're moving to a part of 'steel guitar heaven'. Whatever you do, don't miss Quihi.

Be sure to go see Don Pack at Delview Music Center. Don has been seeing to the needs of San Antonios steel community for many years.
Many of steel players from this area have had a lesson or two from Dons Music School from Don or Denny Mathis. Welcome to San Antonio!

Don Pack was where I got my first guitar lesson, and later steel guitar.

Without his tutelage, I never would have made it to Nashville.
