Topic: Nocturne - Chopin - E9th |

Once upon a time in my classical library I had a piano solo of the subject work composed by Chopin. The haunting strains of the melody stayed with me over the years and I worked on an arrangement for the E9th tuning " off and on ". Recently I completed tabbing and recording this beautiful song. Bill you made me do some research with your question.
I have it named wrong. It is not from the Nocturne series but rather an Etude.
Etude In E, Opus 10, No 3
I transposed it to F major.

Right, Roy, when I went home and looked for this piece in my piano music it did not match any of the Chopin Nocturnes I have. But I knew I had the piece, so I kept looking through Chopin and found it was the Etude No. 3 in E. I thought maybe he had done the same theme in different pieces. But I guess the Etude was the one you were thinking of also.
I also had a simplified piano arrangement transposed into F, just as you did. On piano, F, with one flat, is much easier to play than E, with four sharps. It's nice to stick close to the original key. But when rearranging for a different instrument, it is common practice, even in classical music, to change to a key that works well on the instrument. F is so close to the nut on the E9 neck that it can be cramped down there (of course you can always move up to the neck to the AB pedal postion). C is a great key for classical pieces on E9, because you have lots of room to move in either direction.
If any of you haven't checked out the rest of Roy's stuff over on Ron Turner's site, you should. He's got an MP3 of Schubert's Ave Maria, a "miniature" played on a diatonic tuning, and lots of other interesting and beautiful stuff.

It's truly beautifuly played. I downloaded the .mp3 and the .gif files. Tried it myself. Most piano pieces on steel guitar sound too fast, trying to catch up with the pianist. This one has a beautiful touch and smooth sound. Almost as if it was composed for steel.

Your touch is incredible. And I will go on record saying that IF the steel guitar ever makes it to the concert stage as a regular instrument, most conductors will insist on a very similar timbre that is yours.
