I collect country music and bluegrass memorabillia. It sure was great to see the pictures from Bobby Lee and Gene Jones on the thread about stand up steel players.
Does anyone else have any pictures from the forties, fifties or sixties that they would like to download and share?
Remember when the country bands at all the gigs could play the top country songs that were tops on country radio at the time?
Pretty hard to do today unless your under thirty with keyboard and wind instruments and can fit into a pair of size 30 jeans, which I'm not to sure Bobby Lee and I can do.
Thanks,
Dave A. Burley

Hi Dave,

We missed you at the show in Grand Rapids this past year. Mom had said that if you were going to be there that she would have liked to come down, so maybe next year?

I'm sure I can get her to have a friend who is scanning her entire scrap book to get you one from her "Patty Gibson and the Fugitives" days. How are things? I'm sorry I never replied back to that one post or Email you sent me a long time ago, but I was going thru some crap at the time and a lot of friends wondered where I went. Mom would still like to see you again sometime if you ever get up to the area, or I can get you her Email addy.

Skeeter,
I tried to email you but it wouldn't go through.
Sure would like to have your mother's email address and I do hope to see her
sometime in the near future.
The pictures from her scrapbook will bring back a lot of memories as I probably knew many of the people.
Thanks,
Dave Burley

Well, if nothing else, this ought to give everyone a good laugh! This was me... about 40 years ago, in my first country band.

Dave:

I just emailed you a 1949 pic of the Golden West Cowboys when I played with them.
============================================
Edited to say that I'm having trouble with my connection to my email server -- so I don't know if the pic came through. Dave, if you didn't receive it and still want it, email me later and I'll re-send it.

Alright Hinson, tell the truth, you're really Roy Orbison in disguise, right?

The glasses gave you away.

Whatta' pic. Damn it's nice to finally see a band that's dressed as if they didn't fall out of the nearest greasepit. Betcha' these folks could play well too!!!

Donny, thanks for sharing, and I saved it for future blackmail purposes.

So, Fred...you do remember what Roy looked like when he was in his early 20's! Most people today don't.

Donnie, sure do....Played with him on KMID TV channel 2 Midland, Texas for a while. His home town was in Wink Texas, and he hated it....Way ahead of his time..

Your picture really favors him when he first started...Not just the glasses...His looked like the bottom end of a coke bottle with rims on it.

Well, here's a more recent picture guys, with another band (that's me on the left). I was the "old man" in this group, for sure! The "uniforms" are long gone, but we still tried to look decent. And speaking of getting "laughed off stage", I'll have you know that I had nothing to do with the naming of this band!

p.s. Chris, I'm recouperating rather nicely, and I should be back pickin' by the end of Sept....keep me in mind!

Billy Robinson had some nice shots in his scrapbook - probably from the 50s - in St. Louis.

By the way, If you haven't seen Billy's artwork, you're missing something. His exhibit was on display in the Derby Room for the weekend. Don't know if he has a website, but his latest abstract of a steel player is quite compelling! And all of them make you smile.
