Thanks Jim,
Real Country Arcives Page 12 The Waltz You Saved for Me..Ferlin Husky, the break is done on non pedal, absolutely breathtaking, think it maybe The master..Jerry Byrd.
Give a listen and let me know,Mr Byrd did a lot of sessions about that time, tone, delivery, style, makes cold chills on yourself.Reminds oneself what steelguitar is supposed to sound like in the hands of someone like JB..

That is Jerry for sure. For more, go to page 11 and play "Next to Jimmy". That is Jerry Byrd at his best! I think it's real country page 11.

I have 3 versions of Rose City Chimes by Bobby Garrett. Original 1958 version, live 1962 version and 1964 version.
Ferlin recorded Waltz You Saved For Me in 1963 on album entitled "Some Of My Favorites", Capitol T-1720.

I asked the Record Lady to put up I Hear Little Rock Callin' by Ferlin Husky. Buddy plays a Travis style ride that's killer! She mailed and said she'd get it on in a couple of days. Check for it!

Yes 'tis indeed the master. And I believe he used his diatonic tuning on this.

Ferlin told me once backstage at a Charlie Pride show that his favorite steel players were:

1. No pedals--Jerry Byrd

2. Pedals--Buddy Emmons

Funny dats da same way ah feel Strange him feelin the same way.

I wonder if there is any more that feel that way? nah, ah figger its jes me

Thanks for letting us know about this recording of Rose City Chimes. I have it with Ernest Tubb. This one seems different. Me "lacks" it!

I agree about "Next to Jimmy". I believe this is the greatest non pedal break there has ever been. How he gets that phrasing defies anything I have ever heard on a non-pedal steel.

May God bless Buddy, Jerry, Ferlin, Charlie and all of you.

Thanks for the link! I use the Record Lady site all the time. I'd never heard the tune until now. Once again I'm blown away by the Big E. Every one of his early singles is a gem.

thanks again,
Drew

What a classic ride from the Maestro himself. I remember the first time I hear Rose City Chime in '59 and how Buddy did such a super job and made me lose some sleep over that. We all trace our influences to a very few that we can count on one hand and Buddy laid the cornerstone.
