I listened through the CD several times recently and also really enjoyed it. It's one thing to do a project such as this but it's another to be out there promoting it by performing this stuff live...living and breathing it every day.

David plays a huge role in this band. I even joked and suggested the name be changed from Jack West and Curvature to David Phillips and Curvature (no offense Jack).

Great job David. I'm looking forward to hearing more.

Mike

I received the cd yesterday and have listened to it 3 times already. Very nice listening. I'm generally not a huge fusion fan as some of it gets a bit crazy for me sometimes, but Curvature is just very well balanced for my taste.

The steel is well played and used in this genre as are the other instruments. The effects are also used quite well and there is nothing that is over bearing.

Very nice music. I'm going to put it on right now as I get into my morning coffee.

In a good jazz band, all of the players are featured. Curvature is structured like that. Jack West gives everyone a lot of space for improvisation - he doesn't hog the spotlight like some bandleaders do.

The result is great for those of us who want to hear the steel. David has plenty of solos, and there's lots of interplay between him, Jack (guitar), and Joel (Marimba Lumena).

Mallet percussion fans (I am one!) should take note as well. Joel Davel is a true virtuoso of the instrument, and his electronic marimba matches the acoustic variety in tone and surpasses it in versatility. I was surprised and delighted to hear the low wooden tones he gets on this CD - they rival the best concert marimbas in my CD collection.
