I finally saw the tape of the shoe. Dan Bates sent it to me. (Thank you Dan.)

Throughout all the posts written about the show, apparently nobody noticed RR was playing through a wah wah pedal. When I saw him he used one on some of the songs, but not all. Some peoople have said that they don't like the tone he used on the show. I have to admit, I'm not crazy about the wah wah pedal either. But the wah wah sound is not RR's normal tone, only one of his sounds. It is perhaps unfortunate that he chose to use it on the show.

The performance on the show was NOT typical of that RR does in person. The high energy and the sheer exhuberence of his playing was missing. My guess is that he was nervous and inhibited.

Whether you like him or not, you need to see him live to appreciate what he is doing. He is a lot more relaxed and uninhibited when he is unencumbered by the pressure of being on national TV.
