I was at The New Country Music Hall of Fame recently, and Shot's Sho~Bro was NOT on display!
I feel that we, who contributed the guitar should know where it is and why it is not on display.
Comments??

I was not fortunate enough to have donated towards that guitar BUT I feel that those who did so, did so for all of us and therefore I have an opinion. Someone should be held accountable ANYTIME an important piece of musical history aint where it outta be!

I'm pissed. It took us months to raise the money to buy that guitar. Who was in formally in charge of donating it? We should send a letter of protest.

I will become serious for a brief moment here. In all sincerity, Smiley Roberts knows and is known by most of the music insiders of Nashville. He would be my first choice as to someone who could find the answer to this dilemma. As b0b stated, a lot of hard work and genuine pride went into this effort to preserve a part of history and I would hate to see it fall through the cracks or end up where it didn't belong. Jim Cohen spearheaded this event and even made a trip to the HOF to see the Sho~Bro and received NO credit, except for one casual mention by Donna Darlene on a TNN interview, for his endevors and wasn't even invited to the presentation ceremony. When I look at the picture of those attending, I only see 2 or 3 that even donated to the cause. It was like we gave it to them and they gave it to the HOF. I clearly remember the reason behind it and the efforts made by the forum members to secure a part of history. This is a slap in everyone's face who donated towards this project.

| I was told by a friend of mine last night, who was at the HOF last weekend, that not all of the articles would be exhibited at once, and that the displays would be changed every so often in order that people attending would return for future visits. Possibly this explains why is not displayed at this time. |

If I remember correctly, Donna invited Jim to the HOF presentation ceremony. They gave her a strict limit (6 people I think) due to the capacity of the room downstairs.
Seems to me Jim could not make it on account of another commitment in PA, which was a shame.
In any event, I do hope that the ShoBro goes on display since that was the deal that they agreed to. Donna also insisted that the names of all of the contributors be listed next to the guitar. The donation was from all of us since we, in effect, bought it from Donna and donated it to the HOF.

I just spoke by phone with Mark Medley of The Country Music Hall of Fame.
He stated that they were "giving the Sho~Bro a rest"  , and it would be put back on display in the near future.
I feel a little better about it now.

How about a date that it wil be on display and a reason why it isn't.

I was glad that he even acknowledged that he knew what I was talking about.

I think it's fairly common practice for museums/displays/halls of fame to rotate their displays.
In order to display an item like Shot's instrument, I imagine that necessitates removing some other piece of memoribilia to make room... which of course would tick off some other fan somewhere.
Try to be reasonable, guys. Mr. Hall, I'm sure your lynch mob doesn't use the same old noose everyday, without rotating it occasionally, do you ?

James, and all concerned.
First, there is PLENTY space in the new Hall of Fame.
One of the the displays has 100+ items belonging to only one "star".
Second, the Sho~Bro no longer belongs to Donna to reclaim, as we of the forum bought it from her to be PERMANENTLY displayed in The Country Music Hall of Fame. |

When I was at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia a few years ago, they told me that there is less than 5% of their exhibits on display, and they rotate all the time. Same with most any museum. I'm sure it will rotate into display, however, the more they hear from people wanting to see it will dictate how soon (and I mean in a dignified request).

I ain't ever seen em' rotate out the "Liberty Bell" or that piece of parchment that we are celebrating July 4th for !!
And I thought that one of the reasons the "NEW" HOF was built was because there wasen't enought room in the old one,resulting in large amounts of money spent for "Rotation" of displays.
Again,we the common folk,have been duped by (you supply your own thoughts here)........ |

Heard on the news yesterday that the Declaration Of Independence is being removed from display for 2 years while they do restorative maintenance on it. I would be equally pi$$ed off if I went to the National Archives and it wasn't on display without prior notice as I would be if the CM Hall of Fame didn't have what I wanted to see on display. I would never expect that kind of notice from the Hall Of Fame but would still be pi$$ed. |
