I recently acquired a CD by BR549 and found the Steel player Don Herron to be very exciting. My guess is he's playing a lap steel, but that boy rocks. On Cherokee Boogie he plays one of the finest solos I've heard in quite a while. Another point he plays with distortion, so unlike all of the steel you hear day in and day out. Not heavy distorion ala David Lindley, still you can hear those tubes a hummin. These guys are a lot of fun, and really rock.

That last time I heard them, Donnie was playing an old D-8 National. Pretty rough guitar up front but the tone was still there.

A few weeks ago, he was playing a Fender triple-8, and on at least one song he played an Emmons S-10.
