Bear with me a little if you will. I don't know how many folks are into midi or related stuff, but I thought I'd post this if anyone might have an answer or reason.
I bought a Roland JV-1010 some time ago, because my computer sound card (soundblaster) was not good enough. I use the module for BIAB and for cakewalk 10 midi and it sounds great. Each instrument within the GM 2 format is very good, save the banjo.
I thought, cool, I'll bring along my old Roland SynthPlus10 to the gig and use the sound module instead of the built in sounds. When I hooked up everything at home, the module, with all it's updated sounds and hundreds of patches sounded no better than my 15 year old keyboard, in fact, maybe worse.
Midi is midi. How can it sound so powerful thru the computer with my synth as trigger and so bad thru my PV/Yahama amps with the same trigger?
To discount bad amps, I ran just the keyboard back into them and the sound was great in comparison, tho old technology and sounds. What gives? |
