I'm not sure about the difference between "Rippers" and "Encoders." I kind of thought that they were both the same thing, i.e., software which converts audio from various sources (WAV files, internal mixer, CD-ROM, line input) into MP3 format. I have MusicMatch Jukebox 5 and in their termninology, "Skins" refers to various color schemes that you can use for the PC based player.

Rippers are used to rip a song from a CD to turn it into an MP3.

Encoders take sound files from another source - typically not CDs and convert them to MP3 format.

Skins are like Windows Themes but only for the particular player you use. It changes the cosmetics of the player.
