Doug Jones came to see and hear me last night and loved the high's and the clear midrange I was getting from my system. It is all due to the Black Box. Oh the TT pickups and Hilton and my PP added but the BB was the icing on the cake.

I told him that if I had a hint of JD in my sound I was very pleased.

Find a friend that has one, try it, you will be happy you did. Also try the Hilton pedal it will change you forever.

"Tone to the bone", is taking on a whole new meaning for me, and I was pretty happy before Jerry, Keith and Brad took all my money.

well larry i think you sounds like yourself,
you can't sound like another steelplayer.
every player sounds different but could sounds great through your own ears.
just like every guitar sounds different.

anyway nice to hear that you find the solution that give you the sound you want.

Sorry for the confusion from my part but on the west coast we always asume that JD is followed by Maness as we all know him personally and relate to him and not the late great Jimmy Day. When we talk mid range presence it is JD "Maness". Now back to the topic at hand.

I was trying to share my experience with others who may have questions about the BB and how it works, from my view point. Maybe I am just to serious for my own good. I guess the "JD" (whoever they are) album sales will go up, oh good for them. Maybe something good does come from light humor. In the mean time!!!!

Larry I agree the BB is super for the sound.
Brad saw something that was missing in the chain and filled the gap to great effect.

I would love to hear JD, through a BB.
Either JI or ET.

Larry's tone is always good. The other night was even better. The highs were excetional and the mids clear and very present. The bass notes were equally as clear. Normally to cut through to the crowd one usually cranks the highs and presence on stage. Both out in the crowd and standing next to the amp during solos there was no harshness or brittle sound, just clear clean in your face PP enviable tone. I've heard him with the Hilton and the tru-tones (16K). Since adding the Black Box his tone now seems to have extra clarity. Way to go Larry!

Now what I am I going to do? I have been trying to sound like Larry, and now he went and changed everything!

Oh well, way to go Larry! Looks like the tube sound is catching on around the steel community.

All joking aside, I use a Fender amp and a Session 400 for steel. Best of both worlds!!

Sure soounds like the Black Box is a big hit. Maybe I can try one out at Dalls this year!!!

Doug is a gear head like the rest of us and his ears are fine tuned. This is not about me it is about the gear. I am not afraid to add or subtract from my equipment chain. Some things work and some do not. To me it is like a customized car, the car drives great but what if...

Ken good to see you here on the forum, how is the new house?

Boy, it's times like these that I really get to missing all you guys in the Portland, Oregon area, Larry, Doug, Eric and my old ex Portland area friend who has moved to Georgia where he's now made his home, Ken Fox, I'd really like to get together with all of you, sob, sob , I don't have anyone up here to pick on. But at least I think about all of you quite a bit of the time. Hit a lick for me guys!
