When using headphones out of the headphone jack I noticed the amp's speaker remains on .Is it safe to reherse with the speaker un-plugged or should there be some type of dummy load plugged in ?

I recommend that if you use "HI-FI" headphones, you be very careful. These headphones (which seal with cushions that go all the way around the ear) can feed enormous amounts of sound to the ear. A simple short in the amp, or a dirty pot MIGHT leave you with permanent ear damage. Keep the master volume LOW, and that way you won't have a permanent "ring" in your ears from something as simple as a bad cord. An even better idea is to keep the earphones slightly off the ear...just in case!

I do suggest that you do not allow the "hot" speaker cable touch any metal piece on the amp. Taping the metal part of the plug might not be a bad idea.
