I've got a Webb 6-14E that has a "Pre amp Out" jack but no "Power amp In". How can I plug my Profex II in to have an effects loop?

There is no effects loop on the 6-14E. Maybe someone has figured out how to add one. I'm moving this to the Electronics section, where it's more likely to get a reply. |

Jim, How old is your Webb? I have a new one
(1998) that I bought from Webb in CA.
It has an effects loop on the back panel.
I run my Boss DD-3 delay thru it.
Hope this helps. Scott |

Mine is '78; no effects loop. In fact the user's manual that came with it said to be sure and put the effects between the guitar and the volume pedal, never between the volume pedal and the amp.
That was the thinking at the time.
Nevertheless, I sometimes wonder whether one could put them between the preamp out jack and the low input jack. However since I'm not eager to fry it, I'll just say you first. |

Since you don't have an effects loop or a power amp in, your best bet is to run from guitar to volume pedal to Profex II to the instrument in on the amp.
Set the amp flat (or as flat as you can). Set the Profex II output level for a low level so it doesn't overload the input on the amplifier. Then use the amp level controls as you normally would.
You can still tweak the EQ on the amp slightly as needed, but set it flat to start with since the Profex II has a preamp and EQ in it (e.g. the 3B parameter, which Jeff uses a lot, is a 3 band digital eq).

Instant feedback. That would not work. The low input is just a resistor away from the high input - this is a single channel amplifier.

My '95 Webb 6-14E has Pre amp OUT and Power amp IN jacks that are also double labeled as effects SEND and RECEIVE. |

Thanks guys for the info. I love the sound of this amp anyway, so I think I'll just sell the profex. |

b0b - nice answer - firmly lays my question to rest. Clear, succinct, right on target.
Thanks, Bob |

Does anyone have a schematic for the dual jacks (preamp out, power amp in) on the newer Webbs? I'm wondering if they are just a tap at a single point. If so, it might be real easy to add a second jack to the older amps, making an instant effects loop.

You just have to make sure it's the kind of
jack that will interrupt the whole
preamp section when you insert the plug into it. That's the only critical thing.

I just got a TubeFex, and I have two 70's vintage Webb 6-14E amps. I'd like to try running the Tubefex right into the power amp sections of these two Webbs. Has anyone ever rewired that jack to be a power amp in instead of a preamp out? Would it be as simple as swapping a few wires?

The jack would have to be switched with one
that will cut out that whole preamp section
when you plug into it. You then wouldn't
swap wires, just move them slightly as to where they solder in on the board. |
