Boy is it nice not being the bad guy for a change.Personally I think Collin Raye has one heck of a voice. But nowadays you get flamed for liking someone,it's dammed if you do ,dammed if you don't.I just picked up Eddy Ravens new CD along with Leann Womacks and they are both in "my" opinion "Great". Ok bring on the flames.

(This is just an observation.)
OK, call me an "old curmudgeon", but I fail to see how anyone could say that...

He's had 8 or 10 CD's on major labels (I've got a couple of them! ), almost as many top-10 hits, and two gold albums (that I know of).
Compared to any member of this humble FORUM, I'd say he's done pretty well for himself.
(I ain't pickin' on anyone, just makin' a statement) |

While I have to admit that what Collin has out now is good, it is sure a long way from "Every Second", which sounded pretty traditional. I like him yet, but I liked him better then.

From the beginning i have always thought this guy would look more natural on a Broadway stage than in a band. He does have an outstanding voice. |

Teresa, although I favor more traditional music, I think Collin is a fantastic singer, very talented...when I hear "I Think About You", I think about my little girl. Great lyrical content. Gregg played with me in 77' at the world famous El Capitan,on Hermitage Ave, he had an Elektra Les Paul copy back then, he also did a session for me and Snake back in 92' at Scruggs Sound. His solo on the swing stuff was killer....Larry |

On Second Thought, was a great song, and a great arrangement and great steel and great singing. Too bad he didn't do a whole bunch like that. |

Fred,
You might have been thinking of Collin Raye's song - "Every Second". If I remember, it had a good feel too.
I have to second Theresa, I heard Collin live about six or seven years ago, and he put on a great performance. He's one of the few artists that sing on pitch during a whole production show! |

On second thought, it was Every second, not on second thought, you know how the mind goes when you age. That's why I can't remember the lick I learned yesterday. Eddie Rabbit could have leaned on the steel a little more too. |

It's really hard for me to understand why someone would put down a great talent because they don't like the direction of the music. Why not give credit to someone who can adapt and keep going. The man has that Marty Robbins Quality in his voice.I love the old Country and always will but I have come to terms with myself that what was is past..I was the biggest voice against Leanne Womacks "I hope You Dance" I gave it a listen now I can't get it out of my head ,It's a great song and it it is Country even if they take the steel out of it.

Joe,
Thanks for sharing your story.
Music should always bring out the positives in us all. I don't understand the importance of giving off negative energy towards any style of music.

Gosh, y'all have gotten soft since they shoved the OTB aside.
I read, and re-read, retcop88's post(s) and all I see is a differing opinion. It was kindly stated and to the point.
I'm basically neutral on Collin's music; never have bought any.

Ron,
Yes, I posted this under Music not OT. Retcop88 was speaking of mispelling maybe. Anyway, it's a great forum to speak soft or whatever. Collin does have and has always had steel on EVery song, that I'm aware of! The man can sing anything! Thanks, Theresa[This message was edited by Theresa Galbraith on 25 May 2001 at 11:45 AM.] |
