Dixie Chicks' New Year Delivers Five Grammy Nominations

January 4, 2000 (Nashville, Tenn.) - Just four days into the new Millennium, the Dixie Chicks have added five new Grammy nominations to their on-going list of accolades. Along with a nomination for the
coveted Album of the Year award, the group is up for Best Country Album for FLY, Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal for "Ready To Run," Best Country Song for "Ready To Run" and Best Country Collaboration With Vocals for Asleep at the Wheel's "Roly Poly."

In addition to the upcoming Grammy nods, the girls are nominated for Favorite Musical Group or Band by the People's Choice Awards (airing January 9 on CBS-TV) and nominated for American Music Awards' Favorite Country Album and Favorite Country Band/Duo (airing January 17 on ABC-TV). With 20+ nominations and awards this year and over 3 million
in sales for Fly, the Dixie Chicks' Sophomore effort was received enthusiastically by the fans and music critics alike.

At the close of 1999, Entertainment Weekly named the Dixie Chicks one of the "Entertainers of the Year;" US Magazine proclaimed the debut of FLY to be one of the "99 Stories of 1999;" and Rolling Stone labeled them the 1999 Country Artist of the Year.

In the past two years since the release of their debut album Wide Open Spaces, the Dixie Chicks have broken virtually every record set in their paths and topped every known industry chart including the #1 slot
on SoundScan's Top 200 Albums Chart for the debut of Fly. This feat made the celebrated Texas trio the first country duo or group to debut at #1 in the history of SoundScan and the album had the highest first-week sales of any country act with the exception of Garth Brooks.

Both albums consistently hold top positions on the Billboard Country Albums Chart with total sales reaching over 11 million.

Way to go Chicadees!!!

I liked the "Wide Open Spaces" album, but the follow-up release has never caught my attention. I gave it a listen and concluded as Jack stated above...

But more power to 'em. There on a roll and are hitting that target market -- women between 24 and 35. My 17-yr-old daughter loves them too.
