I have had this guitar for about 8 or 9 years. I have never known much about it except that it sounds wonderful for the classic stuff and western swing! It is constructed of birds-eye maple. A couple days ago I sent pictures of it to Scotty's Music to date it and find its value. Don Curtis and Scotty conferred and said as near as they can tell it is a 1956. The serial number is just stamped on the jack plate on the bottom and it says "ID 285". It is in very good condition but has a few nicks that you might expect from a guitar that is almost 50 years old. Comes with original case. Click here for pictures.

Thats a beauty,,why sell it..Jerry Byrd played one of those at the NAMM show in New York years ago and he loved it. He didnt need the three necks that why he went back to a single of the same model....keep it,,It will escalate in value. Birds eye?

Don't the tuner pans look just like the Fender ones..
Those aren't Horshoes are they ?

These look a lot like Fender tuner pans.Never seen these on a Rickenbacker.

Not familiar with all the ins and outs of the vintage steel guitars as some of you are. However, I'm just about positive that this is all original on account of I know someone that has one exactly like it. We have put them up side-by-side and they are identical. Kind of cool!

In the mid 50's Rickenbacker redesigned their guitars with more of a "Fender" feel to them, as Fender was then the leading name in steels. A Friend of mine has a 60's Jerry Byrd S-8 model with similar features to this one.
The pickups by this time (I'd think this to be a mid-60's guitar) were nolonger horseshoes, but they still have a nice warm Rickenbacker sound. If you notice, modern Rickenbackeer basses have pickup covers similar to these.
Looks all original to me,
