A friend brought by a very "old looking"
Magnatone lap steel on Friday for me to evaluate. I simply do not know anything about them.
Can someone enlighten me on this?
It was a six string, seafoam green color,and
it had a serial # plate on the back of the neck. Does this sound like something I should buy?

There isn't a lot of information about these lap steels available that I've been able to find. Magnatone made a full range of instruments, from single neck student lap steels (by far the most common) all the way to four neck table steels.
If the price is right and the guitar sounds good, I'd consider it.

I've seen a few of them here in Germany and they all sounded pretty good. You get them in a mint cond. for around 200-400 U.S. $ over here.
