Can't seem to find the right voicing/grip behind the V chord in the first line of the chorus. The closest I come sounds like the intro to "Linus & Lucy." Anyone?

I play it like this. Pick the 5th string, then pick 1 and 2, pick the 5 again, then the 1 and 2, then resolve to 3 and 4. Sounds kinda like Lloyd. Oh, this is at the 15th fret.

Hey Frank; I haven't listened to the Alan Jackson version; but I'm sure they probably did close to the original version. I've been doing that song for years and if I'm not mistaken; are you talking about:
"Kiss and Angel good mornin"> 5 chord vamp?
If so here is how I do it.
Say the song is in G; so the D is the 5 chord on the 10th fret.

I hope that helps.

Ricky -

You're right - I meant the vamp. Thanks!

And yes, PF does it just like LDG. FF.

Frank, your original idea was right. I can't remember the (Pride) version but on Jackson's you can hear the D ringing above the figure. 4,6 and 10 is the grip at fret 10. There is also a 4,5 and 9 in the figure too. You were on the right track originally. Good ear. Have fun, great tune.

Yeah, it's really cool how PF pays homage to LDG, knocking down a couple of his riffs.
