Hi,
I just got a used Williams S10 700. Beautiful guitar. I was switching it over from Day to Emmons and found these clips attached to a couple of the cross-shafts. Does anybody know what they are called and what their purpose is? Thank you.
Allan

Pedal return spring (not changer return -- pedal return). It keeps the pedal suspended so that gravity does not take the slack out of the pull train. It should not affect anything, whether it is installed or not, but some people like to have the pedal ride a bit high so that they can rest their foot lightly on the pedal without actually pulling the string (until the pedal is depressed 1/4").

If someone knows of other reasons for the spring, I'm open to learning.

Bill told me that these are to prevent the activation of one pedal/lever making another one attached to the same bell crank move also...and yes, not necessary, and not generally installed automatically

Thank you very much. I removed both of them. I like the feel of the lever and pedal more without them.
