What I've done is wrapped duct tape or something similar around the leg and the knurled knob to protect them, then use channel-locks or large vice grips to get a better grip on each part. You can try contact cleaner inside the knurled knob. Most likely the problem is alloy oxidation on the threads of the knurled knob. Contact cleaner removes oxidation - so if you can get it in there, that will help.

| I keep a strap wrench in my seat for stuck clutches or for my one front leg that the plug will slip out of the leg 1/10 times and I have to strap wrench it out of the body. |

Clean the leg end and the plug with alcohol and wipe them off, then add a thin coat of crazy glue to the plug and quickly drive it into the leg. Let it sit for an hour and it will never come loose again!

If a dog used the legs like fire hydrants, Or someone spilled some coke or pepsi can make for a rough loosening job.
Strap wrenches and Kano-Kroil works good.
If you use liquid wrench or Kano-Kroil on the threads be careful and just use 3 or 4 drops. To much and it gets to the fiber ring in the clutch can cause more problems.
Wire brush the threads, Both male and female, Get any Chips or goobers out of the threads. Use a little candle or bees wax to lube the male threads when reassembling.

| I have had luck heating the outer part with a blow dryer or such expanding it enough that you can break it loose. Then disassemble and clean in the manner others have mentioned here. |
