Been looking myself for carton to ship std. 6 string guitar.
Found some solutions at Uhaul, Amazon, Reverb.com etc. All have to be ordered online.
Sometimes, big box stores have some TV boxes that will fit a steel case if you can get to them before they go to the recycle bin.
Another source might be appliance stores.
Also, guitar/music stores will often have cartons. They used to give them away, but now they charge a pretty stiff fee around here.
A std. guitar case is longer than a steel, but many times you can cut one of those boxes down to fit a steel case. |

I go to the UPS store and get a box to cut down to fit a steels..

I get either sheets of cardboard or pieces from large boxes and bend them using a 4' ruler then pound the edges with a hammer and they come out great. The sheets are usually double walled industrial and most companies that build and ship products have them around for dividers.

Adding the hard foam really makes it a great container.

Exactly what Greg says, but I first make a box out of 2" styrofoam sheet that is held tightly around the case with that clear stretch wrap packing stuff. It clings to itself so is easy to use. Then, after making the cardboard box -- just as Greg describes, I glue it together at the overlaps.

Big TV boxes and appliance boxes are good, Most are double wave laminated.
I have made boxes for a lot of different things to ship.
Getting good straight bend was always a problem.
Some years ago, going through some tools. There was a tool to install replacement screen in screen windows and doors. One end has a V'ed roller. A light went off. Factory boxes have groves stamped in them.
Mark bends. C clamp a straight edge to the cardboard that will become the inside of box. Run the roller along the straight edge firm to mash a grove in the carboard, Then fold. Cross bends are straight, Then glue or tape, Makes for a neat box. |

| I live near a restaurant supply store and they pretty consistently have double and triple walled cardboard containers out back. If you have a store like this in your area, I would say it’s worth going by. |

Check out dumpsters behind Guitar center stores. I've always found double strength boxes there. RP
