I recently discovered E Huli Makou. I love the steel playing on Sonny Kamahele’s version. I read on the forum that Kamahele played steel. Does he on this track?
Or does anyone know who does?

| Joe, I have that particular album. Although the liner notes on the lp cover don't mention Sonny playing steel, and there are no musician credits, I too, did read or hear that Sonny played steel. I think I heard Alan Akaka mention it on a YouTube video-can't remember where I heard it. |

OK, going to state for the record that I have no firsthand knowledge who the steeler is. But to "show my work"...
First thing I did was look up the original Pau Hana record...which is obviously a compilation. Cord Intl is long defunct but you can use the wayback machine to see old versions...and it doesn't look like they have the liner notes uploaded on this one:

Next, I figured I'd check on another good source...Harry B Soria's (RIP) Territorial Airwaves. Sure enough he has an episode on Sonny Kamahele that includes the song...at least...a version of the song:

Unfortunately looks like the audio and other features of the site are down, not sure who is the caretaker of it after Harry passed.
But! He did give some clues..."from his 1963 solo release, Sonny Kamahele & his Surf Serenaders"

Note the back cover list of musicians. Eddie Pang! I think he sometimes played for Hawaii Calls? I know he played alongside Barney Isaacs on "Evening In the Islands".

My gosh you are right, I thought their website was down! But it still comes up, albeit slowly. Weird that you can google search Cord International and it doesn't come up. Thanks for the correction!
