Topic: SKH LeGrande changer axle removal ? |

Have removed the changer from the guitar , not sure how to safely remove the axle from the changer . I carefully tapped with a hammer , but it hasn't budged . Wanted to check that I'm not missing something here , before using more force .

Jerry, I can’t remember what SKH axle does, if it’s just pressed in or goes all way thru.
What I’ve done is put one end in a vise with padding and then use a cresent wrench, padded of course, and just twist until it comes apart.

| You can use a wood dowel a little smaller than the diameter of the axle and tap it across the fingers and out the other side. They are not pressed, just hard to get moving after they've been in there for a long time. |

May want to try a good penetrating oil, And let it set overnight.
Give a wood dowel rod a try, Sometimes wood will suppress under shock and not move a stubborn problem shafts.
Next use a brass drift pin slightly smaller than the shaft.
Fingers may be aluminum, Be sure to to protect the finger on the bottom side is protected from damage.

| Heat- just be sure someone hasn't added a set screw on the bottom of the pillow/pillar/pilla blocks 1st. |

Thanks folks , got the axle out . Used some penetrating oil , and tapped it out with a hammer and a dowel . Appreciate the help .
So now I have the changer in pieces , and am cleaning all the gunk out . Have numbered all the fingers so they can go back in , the way they came out .
The original issue with the steel was that a piece of metal trim across the front of the guitar was loose and needed to be reglued . One thing led to another !
