His staccato sound is probably the polar opposite of a steel guitar but I've always loved his syncopated, idiosyncratic playing with its tremendous feel and forward drive. This set from 1966 recently surfaced and it sounds like it was recorded yesterday, not 56 years ago! BTW Bola Sete is a nickname given him by band members. It means "*Seven Ball" because, in Brazilian billiards, it's the only black ball on the pool table.

* corrected!

Love his playing too. In Portuguese sete means seven. I don't play pool so I don't know its significance.

I remember putting on a show with John Fahey in 2000, shortly before he died. Fahey said he studied with Bola Sete back in the '60's. Fahey was pretty bizzare, we took him around town to thrift stores and he bought some albums, mostly classical stuff....strange guy indeed!
