Howdy folks,
I’m new to the forum and new to the bar. Back in the spring I picked up a 38’ Recording King 6 string lap steel from a friend of mine in Ga who has a really cool collection of vintage lap steels. Being a guitar and mandolin player for many years now, I’ve always loved the sound of the steel guitar, especially the early days of honky tonk.
So I did a little bit of research, got some new strings and tuned her up to C6. I’ve always learned by ear and never took the time to really focus in on music theory, chord triads, and why chords and scales work like they do. Believe it or not, I get around on guitar and mandolin pretty good…haha, but it didn’t take long for the C6 tuning to make me realize that it was finally time to learn what I should have learned years ago….understanding how chords, scales, and music really works.
I saw an add here on the forum of lessons offered from Mike Neer and decided to give it a shot. From the corresponding emails, with a reply every time, to the Zoom consultation and finishing later in the week with a PDF lesson chart with an explanation video included, structured just for my level and musical interest, ….well, the whole experience has been beyond my expectations. And the best part to me is Mike taking it slow, only focusing on the basics(in my case) in a way that I can grasp and fully understand.
Although it’s baby steps right now, the door is slowly creeping open! From my adolescence school days until now, I could always learn quick and easy with a good teacher’s guidance and Mike has that ability to do that! I’m looking forward to round 2!!
