Topic: A Squeaky Milly |

My MSA Millennium (#22 - 2004) has developed an annoying squeak in the changer when I firmly depress the B pedal. I have access to a pinpoint oiler, but I don't want to gum up the works.
Any advice?

Get some Tri-Flo lube and put a drop or two between each finger in the changer.

Agree with Erv and tip the guitar all different directions so the oil and teflon mix flow everywhere. I have had totally new guitars come in unlubricated and squeaking.

Greg's tutorial page is excellent.
Not required, but I recommend loosening string tension when lubricating the top of the changer (you're lubing the axle). You want it to flow into the hardest to reach spot of all, the top of the axle, under the finger.
So after putting a drop on each side of the fingers, I usually do as Greg suggested in his tutorial, and move the guitar around to different positions so gravity will move the lube flow around: put the steel on its side for 30 seconds or so to get it to flow down the axle's length (to get further under the fingers), then upside down so it's sure to get a good flow to the top part of the axle under the finger -- the main pressure point when those strings are tuned back up to tension. |

That's a guitar I built. Use either a light tubine oil or 3N1 oil. Put oil on every moving part on the guitar. Also use a small screwdriver to slightly spread the scissors apart to oil them. A few drops between each.

The noise may not be from the changer. The squeak vibrations can telegraph along the pulling train making you think they're coming from somewhere else. I had a similar noise, and after about a half-hour of oiling and fiddling with the mechanics, it turned out to be coming from the pedalboard mounting clips.  Make sure those small screws mounting them are tight! |

My Milly Squeaks No More - the noise it was actually coming from the changer fingers. A little lubrication and now I have no more distractions (or excuses!). Thanks, SGF!
