1. Anyone know how to decipher the serial number to get the year of manufacture (I remember it has something to do with the Julian calendar)?

2. When did Carter start using a metal rear apron instead of the maple of the earlier models? I believe it wasn't a weight issue but rather a means to make dis-assembly for repair easier but I might have dreamt that.

My serial number is 90927284-20, and it's a '97 - indicated by the 7, fifth from the left. One of the 9's must mark the decade - not sure which. I found this out from an archived thread about my guitar when it went through other hands a few years back. There was a discrepancy about the year, and Ann Fabian set the record straight with the serial # explanation.

John or Ann at Carter will surely be by to give you some solid info.
