This one is great, guys and gals:

I play for a Texas recording artist, so I leave my main gigging rig on his bus. Yesterday I jobbed out with another artist in Houston TX at the University of Houston for a large festival. There were about 9,000 people there. It took me 30 mins of circling the campus trying to convince the cops that I needed to get in close to the stage..finally got in.

So I get there with my old Sho-Bud, and when I open up the case...NO BACK LEGS! I forgot I had taken them out of the case to do some work on them at home weeks ago. Well I thought about it. It was much too far to go back home and get them, so I stacked up some drum cases on one side, some milk crates on the other and I was good to go! I had a little trouble reaching my RKR because of the crates, but everything else was totally reachable and playable.

But it gets better....

The stage was huge and covered by a large tent except for one side - MY SIDE - I was outside the tent. Started out fine, nice and shady. Soon though, the sun started beating down on me mercilessly, so I was having tuning fits, plus I wore a sleeveless western shirt and was soon burnt to a crisp on my arms.

Despite it all it was still a good gig...I'll take the worst day playing music over the best day working a "real" job!

HaHa!!

JC

Jody...Sho Bud on a flat bed ain't the best! I'd be interested to know if you tuned just the strings, or did you have to tweak the rods also?

You know the old saying, 'make a mistake with your head and you have to make it up with your legs'.

Ed: I only left the back legs (thank goodness)so I had the front two legs and rods as well as the pedal bar...I didn't have to retune anything at the endplate. JC

Hey Jody, man I bet you still sounded awesome even out of tune.

Just be thankful that your bad gig for the year should be safely in the rearview mirror.

Puts a new slant on getting "legless" at a gig...Jody you would sound great regardless of how you were propping up your axe !!

Thanks Rick and Paddy...

Rodney, I play with Zona Jones now, who is out of Beaumont, TX but the gig I did "legless" was with a guy named Steven Brown from Houston...great young singer.

I don't have any pics, but Steven took a couple on his cell phone camera. I'll ask him if I can somehow get them posted, but I'm pretty technologically challenged!

Fred, the case is beautiful!

I played again tonight and the first thing I did before leaving was make sure I had those legs, haha!
