I'm giving serious thought to purchasing a guitar for Tokyo. Because I ride the train, take cabs, etc, I need a really lightweight guitar.

I was thinking about visiting Fujii-san, as his shop is fairly close to where I live. How about a keyless guitar -- say a D-10? What could be the downside? Tone perhaps?

They look strange to me, but if they work, I'd be a happy camper at two in the morning on a crowded train home... -L-

Get a hold of Bill Williams.. You'll be pleasantly surprised.. Excellent guitar, & you'll love the weight.

Honestly, there are NO downsides. Really.

Excel is right up there next to Sierra.

IMHO Sierra and Excel are the VERY finest. Just look at the underside.

Excel has a different style changer, as you may know. It pulls straight out. Fo'bro Michael Johnstone says it does not EVER break strings. Seriously.

You will not be disappointed. Gauranteed.

Don't worry about the tone. It is all there.

Don't be leary of that keyless. You'll be VERY glad you got it.

Yep, top of the line.
Excel and Sierra.

I played an Excell Keyless S12U at St.Louis.
It was a great axe that would fit your needs perfectly. Looks and carries like a tenor sax in the case.
'Sat in on David Phillips S14U in a band situation and it also played great and sounded stellar.
They have more raises and lowers per string than any other brand. This makes them very attractive to Universal pickers.
FWIW, D10 players can absolutely rock on Uni's!
If nothing else, please post a report (with pics?) on your visit to the factory!
