Don't rule out a tube Black Box.

Unfortunately, I can’t go that deep right now.

I couldn't afford a new Black Box either, but I got a like new one here on the forum for $250.00. After I bought it, there were others later for $200.00 to $225.00. The Black Box has a Freeloader built in. I have had the Lil Izzy and Lil Izzy Plus, and also a Match Box. I prefer the Black Box. Should you find an
affordable Black Box, make sure it is a later model with the variable Z control.

Good luck in your quest.

The only one I've used is an MXR Micro-Amp. Very clean, and reasonably priced ($50 used, $80 new).

I use one made by a local guy, who also makes wonderful cables. Made in Montana, I like it!

I was just thinking about the MXR Micro Amp as an alternative to a Matcdhbox 7a or Hilton Sustain. Will be picking one up tomorrw for a try.

If you're handy with a soldering iron there are some inexpensive kits out there.
I wanted something like an Izzy but didn't want it to stick out so far and I wanted a tuner jack.
Made this out of a Genreal Guitar Gadgets buffer kit and an aluminum enclosure from ebay. I have about $30 and an hour of assembly in it.

I really like this one:

https://empresseffects.com/products/buffer

I put the volume pedal in the loop and put the tuner on the tuner out.
