What are the normal string gauges for strings 11 & 12 on an ext EP tuning? _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, NV400, NV112 . Playing for 54 years and still counting. |

If 11 & 12 are tuned G# and E they would be the same as 10 & 11 in a standard U-12 set, which are typically .042 and .054 |

I wonder why string manufacturers (resellers) don't make Ext. E9 sets. I would imagine there are many (or close to) as U12 players. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, NV400, NV112 . Playing for 54 years and still counting. |

Still a pretty small market, Richard. I've seen E9 and even C6 10 string sets in average music stores sometimes but 12 string sets, nope.
Not too hard to add a couple of singles to an E9 set, though, and the gauges for low E and G# are still in the reasonably common range, .068 not so much. _________________ Excel Superb U12, MIJ Squier tele, modified Deluxe Reverb RI, Cube 80XL, self built acoustics & mandolins |

I ordered custom sets from Live Steel Strings for my 'extended E' tuned steels. They immediately emailed back asking if I really wanted the values I gave them, as my 'extended E' is on 10 strings PSGs with the heavy strings intermixed with the regular E9 strings. Got the sets just as ordered though, no problem
FWIW: for extended low E I use is a .056W - always nickel wound regardless of whether the other wound strings are nickel or stainless. Sounds best as a set that way. |

It's pretty easy to buy a standard E9th set and then add two low strings to the order. A lot of my customers do that. _________________ -πππ- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

I played Extended E9th for 30-odd years*. My low strings were .044 and .056. I didn't raise my low E, but I lowered it to D and C#, hence the heavier gauge.
*Actually, I still have a Sierra tuned that way, but I rarely play it. _________________ -πππ- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |
