I don't have it on my Asher, and I wouldn't swear by it - but I seem to recall seeing one or two photos online with a Hipshot DoubleShot mounted on an Asher lap steel. There appears to be enough room behind the bridge to be able to accomplish this. Were it in the budget I would add the device to mine.

Jerry Douglas owns several Lap King steels which have been his go-to electrics for the past several years, and his touring guitar which I saw again last Saturday evening on a few tunes when he put on an amazing show with his JD Band at Slim's in San Francisco is pictured below.

This one is a custom, Jason lengthened the area behind the bridge because his regular Rodeo model would not accomodate the DoubleShot.

Looks like a Bluestem would do the trick! Not sure if Randy Cordle is making them anymore but there is one on Reverb.
